The Ultimate Murphy Bed Buyer's Guide (2026): Everything You Need to Know Before Buying

A wall bed is a cabinet-mounted bed that frees up floor space when it is closed. The right choice depends on what the room does during the day, the space available when the bed is open, and the exact model you plan to install. Use this guide to make a shortlist, then confirm the current drawing and product details before ordering.

Start with the room's main purpose

Home office and guest room: A desk combination lets one room serve two roles. Compare the Nuzzle Wall Bed with Desk and Muzzle Wall Bed with Desktop. Look at the work surface, shelf arrangement, how the desk moves, and the clearance each needs when the bed opens.

Living room and guest room: If seating must stay in the room, consider the Cuddle Wall Bed with Sofa. Plan for both its daytime seating footprint and its nighttime bed footprint.

Guest room with flexible floor space: Compare the Nestle Wall Bed and Snuggle Standard Wall Bed. If integrated display space matters, also look at the Huddle Wall Bed with Shelf. The products differ in layout, sizes and options, so compare their current drawings rather than assuming one model's measurements apply to another.

For a quick route through the range, use our How to Choose a Wall Bed page or browse the complete collection.

Measure the room in both modes

A wall bed must fit when it is closed and when it is open. Record the clear wall width and height at the installation wall, the room depth available for the open bed, and the space needed to move around it. Check baseboards, windows, doors and their swing, switches, outlets, vents, sprinklers and ceiling bulkheads. If a desk, sofa or storage unit will be part of the layout, account for those elements too.

Check the delivery path through the building: entrance, elevator, corridor, stairs and room doorway. Our measurement guide gives a practical checklist. Use the specification drawing for the exact DUO model and size as the final dimension reference; a generic Murphy bed clearance chart cannot confirm that a particular unit fits.

Choose the bed size and mattress together

First choose the model that works with the room. Then review the sizes offered on its product page and compare the dimension drawings for each size. Confirm the permitted mattress thickness and weight for that model before buying or reusing a mattress. Mattress limits can differ by product; an industry-wide number is not a safe substitute for the current product specification.

Understand installation before ordering

DUO wall beds require secure wall anchoring. Tell the team whether the installation wall has wood studs, steel studs, concrete or masonry, and flag any unusual wall condition. The right anchoring method depends on the wall and the specific system. If you are unsure, discuss the wall with a qualified installer before ordering.

Professional installation is available as a separate service. Confirm the service scope and current price for your order and address. Review the model-specific installation notes and the warranty terms together.

Compare the full cost, not only the bed price

Start with the price of the exact size and finish you want. Check whether your plan also includes a mattress, modular storage, lighting, delivery and installation. Items pictured beside a wall bed are not necessarily included. Delivery options and charges depend on the order and service selected; review the current delivery policy and your checkout total.

Before you decide

  • Confirm the wall width and height, open-bed floor space and delivery route.
  • Compare the exact model and size drawings.
  • Check mattress thickness and weight limits for that product.
  • Identify the wall construction and installation plan.
  • Confirm which storage, lighting, delivery and installation services are included or priced separately.
  • Review current lead time, return terms and warranty for the product.
